Volunteer to Help Arizona's Children!

The Journeymen program is a safe introduction to children in care for families who may not be ready to commit to foster care or adoption.

A "jouneyman" is defined  as an apprentice who's working to master a craft.  In this sense, the kids are journeymen—working to develop life skills, and the families are journeymen, too—working to develop the understanding and supports they'll need to help create permanency for children who are waiting for “forever homes”.

PREPARATION
After completing an initial application, Journeymen program participants will work with Agape to complete a background check. All participants must be 18 years of age or older and have a current and valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card. Agape provides all of the materials necessary to help participants meet these requirements.

REQUIREMENTS
For a period of no less than six months, we ask the Journeymen family to meet with the child(ren) up to six times to provide support in life skills development areas that include:
 - recreational activities
 - mentorship
 - motivation & encouragement
- educational assistance
- advocacy
 - spiritual support & prayer
- cultural experiences

Journeymen will be asked to create a program that is uniquely suited to meet their needs and the needs of the child(ren) they have been partnered with. Agape will assist in creating programs that are fun and diverse! After each activity, Journeymen will be asked to submit a brief synopsis to Agape, noting the highlights of what occurred and providing Agape with insight into the Journeymen’s opinions about the child(ren)’s well-being and long term needs.
