It’s beautiful and amazing to me how intentional our neighbors are being in their efforts to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year. My children’s elementary school didn’t allow homemade cookies nor handwritten Valentine’s Day cards, but the children were still encouraged to celebrate each other and the love they share as friends by bringing in sealed cases of treats directly from grocery stores and letting them sit in quarantine for 10 days before the scheduled, socially distanced Valentine’s Day parties took place. When we are committed to staying connected and safely demonstrating our love for each other, we may have to make accommodations but we will always be unstoppable!
I think this is a foundational concept in the work we do as foster families. We can’t always support biological families in ways that seem traditional, but we tuck their children in at night, encourage them to write sweet notes and draw pictures, get them ready for supervised visits, attend foster care review board meetings and court hearings, and support safe reunification however we can.
We can show our foster children and their parents that we believe in them and we can take action to support them while they are in our homes and after they are reunified. This Valentine’s Day, the staff at Agape wants to thank you for everything you’re doing to be creative, safe, and intentional about the way that you connect with and care for others. You are changing lives every day! And if you are not a foster parent yet but you are interested in being part of the good work that we are doing, please give us a call so that we can help you get started in sharing Agape (unconditional & abundant) love with Arizona’s children.
